Darren's voice is what makes those love songs unique (along with the real instruments of course), it's the depth of emotion he puts in so that you actually feel the song (well I do anyway). I absolutely adore Moving Pictures version of What About Me for the same reason, Alex Smith made me 'feel' the song, whilst Shannon Noll just sings it...the girls don't agree though [img]wink.gif[/img]

p.s. Moving Pictures were an Aussie Band from the early 80's & created pure magic with their album Days Of Innocence, my most treasured piece of vinyl.

I'm a sucker for a good lurve song, although I much prefer the ones with a bit of an edge to them like WYYWG and the sort of soft rock ballads.

My all time fave is Bon Jovi, In These Arms.. it's a classic without souding like it got straight off the train from Pukesville! [img]wink.gif[/img]

The line "You know I need you like a poet needs the pain" has got to be one of the best lines EVER!!

Yep I agree Terry I love the way TC do their songs and esp WYWG.. nothing like a great power ballad I reckon as opposed to a weak love song lol

I too think its Darrens voice and great music of course that makes his songs. SG were absolute masters they knew how to do it to perfection. I think the thing with Darren is when he sings it you actually know and believe that he is feeling or has felt it. When hes honest its pretty hard to beat him.

That true too Terry, for me personally its alot of the "love" songs on Spin that dont work for me and I think thats due to the fact they arent really honest and it seems to come through somehow.

I'm prob way off the mark and totally wrong but that's the impression I get, there doesn't seem to be the same emotion put into them as the SG love songs, in his voice and in the words. I remember him saying in an interview that when he wrote Spin that he wasn't in love but wanted to be so that's prob why they come across as diifferent to the SG soppies.
